Spain won the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup title by defeating Japan, blocking the Asian country a chance to win the World Cup for the second time in a row. Spain’s girls took revenge for the last edition. Spain defeated Japan 3-1 in the match at the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica on Monday and secured their first World Cup title.
Spain almost confirmed the result of the match in the first half. Inma Gabarro scored the first goal after 12 minutes of the match. She is the top scorer in the current World Cup with a total of 8 goals. Only three footballers scored more goals than Inma in this tournament.
Salma Paralluelo doubled the gap in 22 minutes after taking the lead through Inma’s goal. Salma’s second goal from the penalty after five minutes gave Spain a 3-0 lead. The match was basically over then. Spain showed their strong position by scoring three goals in just 27 minutes.
However, Japan pulled one back within two minutes of the second half. Suzu Amano’s goal in the 47th minute of the match only reduced the margin of defeat. Japan could not score more than this one goal after 15 shots for the goal in the entire match. As a result, they had to be satisfied with being runners-up.
